I’m back with another bedroom refresh. I had originally considered adding a stencil to this dresser, but decided against it — the pattern would have felt too busy in such a small room. Instead, I chose a simpler approach: emphasize the dresser’s age and let it “sparkle” with subtle, vintage-inspired updates.

This was a straightforward update. The dresser belonged to my husband and I painted it white when we married. Back then I used an oil-based paint that was stubborn to remove, so the top resisted my sanding attempts. Rather than fight it, I embraced the worn character and leaned into a relaxed farmhouse look.
After a little sanding in select areas and some light cleaning, I decided the dresser only needed small, thoughtful changes. The most impactful update was swapping the old hardware for glass knobs with a nickel base. These knobs were generously provided by D. Lawless and Co., and they add understated sparkle without overpowering the dresser’s aged charm.
The new knobs catch the light and give the piece a delicate, vintage-inspired glow. They complement the distressed areas and highlight the dresser’s history rather than masking it.
I focused the sanding on a few key spots to enhance the worn look. One delightful surprise was uncovering a keyhole that had been hidden beneath the paint — a small reminder of the dresser’s past. Leaving that detail visible felt right and added personality.
They add just the right amount of sparkle without taking away from the beauty of the age. It’s definitely vintage, and the glass knobs enhance that feeling of history.
That hidden keyhole was a nice discovery — I cleaned it up and left it visible as a charming, authentic detail.
This “non-makeover” proves that small changes can produce a big impact: a few sanded spots, a set of new knobs, and a little styling brought the piece to life while honoring its character.
To add a functional yet pretty touch, I attached a small glass cup to the dresser and now use it to hang dangling earrings — another simple idea that makes daily life easier.
