An Almond Wreath for Spring
Spring is right around the corner, and that means it’s wreath-making time. Today I’m sharing how I made my Almond Wreath for Spring — a simple, thrift-friendly project inspired by nature and vintage rustic style.
Spring has arrived and you know what that means — time for a spring wreath. This post shows my Almond Wreath, made with natural greenery and repurposed materials.
At first I planned to make a quick, easy wreath. Then I changed my mind and went for the one that required more work — the wreath that truly inspired me. Easy projects are fun, but sometimes the most rewarding pieces are the ones you invest time in. I’ve made similar fabric-wrapped wreaths before for winter, fall and summer, so it felt fitting to make a spring version inspired by my almond tree.
Originally I considered an easy design, but I chose the more inspired version — the one that takes time and care. I had made related wreaths for winter, fall and summer before, so a spring wreath felt right.
Because this post was part of a home and garden series, I wanted to include an element directly from nature. The almond tree in my yard provided the perfect inspiration — its delicate blossoms and fresh green branches set the tone for the wreath’s look.
Since this post is about home and garden, I included something from nature: my almond tree served as the inspiration.
As a thrifty crafter, I started with a donut-shaped piece of cardboard as the base. Using a sturdy recycled base keeps the project inexpensive and lightweight while still providing a strong structure to attach fabric and greenery.
I began with a cardboard donut shape — a cost-effective and sturdy base for wrapping and attaching materials.
The main technique is simple: cover the cardboard form with strips of fabric until it’s completely wrapped. Alternating fabrics and textures gives depth and visual interest. I used a variety of repurposed fabrics so the wreath would feel homey and handmade.
Wrap the cardboard with different fabric strips so the base is evenly covered and looks cohesive.
For this wreath I chose spring-appropriate fabrics — florals and soft colors that complement the greenery. I also added striped fabric from an old shirt for contrast. Reusing old clothes and fabrics not only reduces waste but also gives the wreath a meaningful, thrifted charm.
I used spring fabrics and a striped shirt I no longer wore. Repurposing materials keeps the project sustainable and full of character.
To enhance the handmade look, I incorporated a few crocheted pieces and small textile accents. These little touches make the wreath feel personal and textured, and they pair beautifully with the natural elements.
Small crochet pieces add a handcrafted touch and give depth to the finished wreath.
I attached an old bell I once used with livestock; its patina adds a vintage accent that complements the rustic aesthetic. A small metal bell or other found object can make a wreath feel timeless and storied.
An old bell adds patina and a nostalgic note, enhancing the rustic vintage style.
The freshest element is the greenery, which I clipped from my own almond tree. Sprigs of almond leaves and small branches give the wreath its spring voice — a delicate, natural contrast to the fabric and crochet details.
I used branches and leaves from my almond tree to bring natural texture and fragrance to the wreath.
Now the wreath hangs on my wall, ready to welcome spring. The finished piece combines vintage rustic style with a bit of nature from the almond tree, setting a warm, seasonal tone for the home. It’s a simple but thoughtful way to celebrate the season and repurpose materials you already have.
The wreath is displayed and ready to greet spring with a rustic, natural flair.
