Hanging Corner Decor Ideas for Small Spaces

Bedroom Makeover: Creating a Practical Hanging Corner

I’ve been painting lately — refreshing my older daughter’s bedroom and turning it from peachy-pink into her favorite color, blue. As part of the re-do I tackled a small but chaotic area we refer to as the “Hanging Corner,” where she keeps bags, belts, hats and anything else she can hang. It was time to replace the flimsy plastic accordion hanger that had been doing the job despite its lack of sturdiness.

The old setup had served its purpose, but the plastic hanger looked fragile and crowded. When you’re refreshing a room, it’s the perfect opportunity to rethink storage: instead of hiding items away, I wanted to create an organized, attractive wall-mounted space where everything could be displayed and accessed easily.

My inspiration came from a recent trip to IKEA and from a simple upcycle idea I had used before: a crib side repurposed as functional furniture. I had one unused crib side left over from another project, and it turned out to be the perfect foundation for a hanging organizer. The goal was simple: transform the crib rail into a stylish and sturdy wall-mounted system for accessories and small items.

Instead of hanging plants or decorative items, I decided to use the rail to hang everyday accessories. I mounted the crib rail horizontally on the wall and fitted a selection of hooks along its slats. This approach gives a clean, intentional look while keeping everything easy to reach. The repurposed crib side adds visual interest and character, and it’s a great example of upcycling a spare piece rather than buying new.

I used a variety of hooks—many of them from IKEA—to hang bags, hats and belts. Mixing hook styles and sizes allows flexible storage for different accessories, and spacing the hooks thoughtfully keeps the display tidy. At the bottom, a small storage box provides a place for items that don’t hang well, such as scarves or small cases.

To install the rail securely I used appropriate wall anchors and screws for our wall type, ensuring the whole unit is sturdy enough for daily use. If you try a similar project, choose hardware rated for the weight you expect to hang, and double-check that the rail is level before final fastening.

Before, the corner looked cluttered and unplanned. Now it’s purposeful and attractive: the repurposed crib rail gives a unique focal point, the hooks keep things orderly, and there’s still plenty of room to add more items. Most importantly, my daughter really likes the change — which is the best measure of success for a bedroom makeover.

This project is a simple, budget-friendly example of how upcycling and a bit of imagination can turn an awkward corner into functional storage. It combines bedroom makeover ideas, accessory organization, and DIY wall organizer techniques. If you have spare furniture parts like a crib side, consider whether they might be repurposed into a custom storage solution before buying new fixtures.

If you enjoyed this idea, share it with friends or save it for later. Small DIY upgrades like this one make a big difference in daily life and can bring order and personality to a child’s room without a full renovation.
